I financed a 2010 Honda Fit with them. The interest was horrible (18%), but I was trying to rebuild my credit at the time so went with the loan. They are a terrible and shady company. Do not do business with them no matter how desperate you are.

After rebuilding my credit, I went to buy a new car. I got a car loan through Toyota. Before buying the car, I contacted Tidewater to find out my pay off. They told me and I also went online and printed out the current balance. When I bought the new car, the dealer's finance officer suggested I pay $250 more toward paying off the Tidewater loan. He said if they try to figure out the interest in a "weird" way, the loan pay off amount might be more. If it was too much, then Toyota would take the extra off the balance of my new loan. Sounded good to me. Done deal I thought.

The next day, the dealer calls me and tells me they had a chance to talk with Tidewater. Turns out I owed $186 more than they original pay off Tidewater told me a few days earlier. Fine, I thought, I just want to be free of this shady company. I paid Toyota the extra money and thought, once again, done deal. Wrong.

Six weeks later, I get a bill in the mail from Tidewater. They say I owe them $437. WHAT??!!?? I called them and asked them what's up. The girl on the phone (Caitlin) was nice, but didn't seem to know what was up so she talked to her supervised (Camille). After being on hold for about 5 minutes, Caitlin comes back and tells me that I owe them $88. "Why?" I asked. "Will, the payment from Toyota was short so now you need to pay this amount."

OK, I have serious issues with this. First, the pay off they tell me is wrong. Then the pay off they tell Toyota is wrong. Then they send me a bill for $437 only to tell me I owe them $88 when I call them to investigate. I'm so done with this shady company. I'm writing a letter to the Virginia Attorney General to file a formal complaint on this company. This is completely unacceptable.

Please make sure you go to the attorney general on them.

Tidewater is not customer centric. I was a customer of them and I had an issue with my payments and I was always in touch with them regarding my account status.

I finally received a call from Mr. Martiquez, who told me he runs things and I did not know who I was talking when I started asking him questions and very rude and demeaning-starting taking over me and I had to end the call.

However, 3 days later my car was repoed. This I take as a retaliation and abuse of authority.
